Ipods
Niche Markets using Ipods for a niche website. People buying an ipod, may be choosing it by Price, by Memory
Type, by Memory Capacity, by Upload Interface, by Supported Formats, such choices can leave some people in a
quandary, many people buy them without fully understanding them, but love the way they work, it would be nice to
have information on many that are available.
But what are they, it is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple and launched on
October 23, 2001, the line-up currently consists of the hard drive-based flagship iPod classic, the high-end
touchscreen iPod touch, the mid-level video-capable iPod nano, and the entry-level screenless iPod shuffle.
Former products include the compact iPod mini (replaced by the iPod nano) and the high-end spin-off iPod photo
(re-integrated into the main iPod classic line). iPod classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while
all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size (the discontinued mini used a Microdrive miniature
hard drive). As with many other digital music players, iPods, excluding the iPod Touch, can also serve as external
data storage devices.
The way it works is with the program on your computer, when you connect it can automatically update your music
library, to keep track of how often you played a song, when you last heard it, and even if you told the iPod to
skip that particular song, for podcasts, the old episodes you have already heard can be automatically removed and
replaced with new ones, and all you have to do is plug it in, as an added bonus, when you plug it in, the batteries
recharge, so that's another thing you don't have to bother to do manually.
They are particularly good at audiobooks, when you have to stop listening, the iPod remembers where you were in
the book, so you can resume listening from where you left off, many other players start over from the beginning, so
depending on the book, you may have to listen to the whole chapter or from the beginning of the book again to get
back to where you left off, there is also an option to listen to books at a faster-than-normal rate, which can be
handy especially if you have a lot of material to cover.
